Nashville hosts the 45th Annual GMWA National Convention
(NASHVILLE, TN June 27, 2012) – On July 7, 2012, the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. (GMWA), founded by the late Reverend James Cleveland, will assemble at the magnificent Gaylord Opryland Hotel, in Nashville, TN for their 45th Annual National Convention. This long-awaited celebration is expected to draw more than 12,000 of the international faith organization’s 75,000 members worldwide, to the great music city! The event offers workshops, classes, and seminars to support the enhancement of gospel performing excellence, as well as, undergraduate, graduate and continuing education credits which are widely accepted in many states. In addition, a national mass choir comprised of thousands of astounding voices, will gather for a recording to commemorate this historic event.
The ceremony opens with a press conference on Friday, July 6th at 2:00 p.m., to officially announce the 4th annual “GMWA Serves” National Community Service Day project; then on Saturday, July 7th, a day of activities kicks off with a citywide volunteer service initiative. Later on, the official kickoff concert, featuring the Music City chapter of GMWA and some of Nashville’s finest vocalists, will take place to welcome all guests to this year’s exciting event! Additionally, a Health Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11th and Thursday, July 12th in the Opryland Hotel Exhibit Hall.
The mission of the GMWA is to foster, nurture and perpetuate gospel music as an original, American music art form throughout the United States and abroad, through an interdenominational, interracial, multi-cultural and multi-national organization. According to Tammy Taylor, Music City Chapter representative, “With the support of the city’s leaders, our volunteers, Board members, gospel recording artists, local elected leaders, local churches and Pastors will proudly serve and bring awareness to the plight of those less fortunate in your city.” This entire event is strategically designed to nurture the total being; mind, body and spirit!
